This device is specifically designed

to combine the function of the grinder

with that of the corer for payload

reduction on Beagle 2.

The corer locator is spaced 10 mm

away from the rock surface by

the X-Y table and scans an area

of 20 mm in diameter creating a flat

surface of 2 mm deep.

when the tool is used for coring,

the X-Y table is retracted allowing

the locator to force against the

rock for fixing.
